Born in Southwestern Pennsylvania, Michelangelo draws from his Appalachian roots, Southern Italian heritage, and LGBTQ+ identity. His philosophy is that art has become too polished and curated, with an emphasis on marketability rather than authenticity. Art needs to return to its messy, subversive, and combative nature. He often uses informal, colloquial language layered with complex ideologies, philosophies, and topics in his poetry and writing. His goal is to truly write for everyone, not just other artists.
This doesn't invalidate the pain, please understand. The pain is very real now, but it was never what they cared about.

We are so powerful. DO NOT think anyone will save you other than yourself. If you remain placid, you will live, but a life worse than death. That's the secret of existence: the rat maze's walls are as real as rainbows. Choose to step out of this stupid game.

I 1000% wrote this after watching Past Lives. This is one of my top three movies, and it beautifully shows that love doesn't always work out in this lifetime. Celine Song did an amazing job.

Undergoing final proofread.
Hunter of You is my Jeremiad-adjacent creative nonfiction confession, yapping about the existential tradition of Kafka, Camus, and Didion. I'm exposing how awareness—rather than ignorance—becomes the primary source of suffering — at least nowadays —revealing that struggling for control over love, justice, and identity ultimately collapses into the same paradox Kafka discusses in his journals: lucidity offers no rescue, only responsibility.

This is my opinionated think piece, conceptualized in mid-September, during Sabrina Carpenter's attack over her album cover for Man's Best Friend and the photoshoots preceding the album's release. I was scared to post this because people love to misunderstand everything...I've changed my mind. I have always been ahead of my time, so womp womp. I'm prolific.

This poem was created in the fall semester of 2019 at WVU.
Light proofreading is the only thing done to this poem after finding it in a shared Google Drive folder from Tom Burge, the professor and musician who was teaching at the time. This decision was made to preserve the workers' integrity and to embrace my writing roots. I forgot what I truly cared about in my early twenties.

Matthew A. Michelangelo's APOLLO is a chapbook about forging a divine connection with another person, and the unavoidable rise and fall that follows when we begin to idolize someone as a God. Rooted in the stages of love from adolescence to seniority, this collection outlines how love evolves as we do, how devotion can both electrify and shatter, and how growth often arrives disguised as loss. Through celestial imagery of Apollo, the Olympian God of the sun, APOLLO explores the tension between worship and reality, yearning and betrayal.
The universe is vast, even pernicious at times, yet it moves with a quiet intention—granting us silver linings that may rarely appear as grand as we once believed we deserved but are no less necessary. This collection draws inspiration from a real interpersonal dynamic in Michelangelo's life.
The relationship showcased in APOLLO is intentionally fictionalized in certain areas to shape and illuminate its larger thematic arc: loving someone deeply and unconditionally is both a creation and a crucible. Even Gods may stumble in the grand trail of love.

Matthew A. Michelangelo's EDEN? is a chapbook about current events, started in 2023. The project was put on hold due to concerns about potential backlash from far-right extremists, highlighting the chapbook's engagement with contentious civil themes such as systemic inequality and divisive rhetoric. In July of 2025, EDEN? was revised under a different name to explore new personal perspectives, but ultimately returned to its original concept to maintain its collective message.
EDEN? Is Matthew A. Michelangelo's direct commentary on the world's current collective culture. Beyond cultural critique, the chapbook serves as a scathing indictment of America, challenging the idealized notion of a melting pot by exposing specific social and political ruptures, such as systemic inequality, homophobia, racism, and elitism.
Matthew A. Michelangelo now perceives the deception within society and challenges readers to choose their role: whether to be the weeds, stifling progress through inaction; the wildfire, consuming the clutter away to allow new growth; or the resilient wildflowers, thriving amidst adversity by fostering new growth and rebuilding a new start.

"Everybody's Boy" is a three-piece collection. This collection moves through three distinct writing eras. "Everybody's Boy" is Greek- inspired, drawing from plays like "Medea," "Lysistrata," and hints of "Romeo & Juliet" (I can't help myself, I'm a loverboy). It transitions to "Of Ink & Ivy" is is gothic in nature, inspired by "Hamlet," which is not gothic, I know. I've tried to adapt it to something more like "Faust Pt. One" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and "The Cenci" by Percy Bysshe. Lastly, "Allegany Crawfish" is a blend of American folk and contemporary writing.

Download"Pretty." is a three-piece collection discussing my experiences growing up as a young gay boy. I always try to avoid explicit content in these types of poems; however, sometimes you need to say things for what they are. For those who need it, the CW: SA, Grooming, and Domestic Violence. Reader discretion is advised, but not really needed in my opinion.

I occasionally enjoy a deep dive into songs I like, especially those with complex, multi-layered basslines. All music rights are reserved for the artist to whom they belong. I do not monetize these papers, nor do I claim ownership of lyrics, only the reflection.
